May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else, just as ours does for you. 13 May he strengthen your hearts so that you will be blameless and holy in the presence of our God and Father when our Lord Jesus comes with all his holy ones.
Too many of us think that love is some emotional thing that comes and goes. Yet this passage from 1 Thessalonians suggests that our love should not only remain steady but that it should also grow. This may seem like an impossible task on our own – and it is. But remember, we can do all this through him who gives me strength (Philippians 4:13). That is why Paul, inspired by God, said “May the Lord make your love increase”. Romans 12:9 reminds us that true, Biblical love must be sincere. You cannot manufacture sincere love. Christ’s love must motivate and compel you.
