This week we continue our summer series on 1st and 2nd Timothy. In 1st Timothy 1:3 Paul urges Timothy to stay in Ephesus. The specific mission Timothy has in Ephesus is to oppose false teaching. Some of the Ephesians have rejected the importance of conscience and attempt to teach without having the required knowledge. As a result, they bicker over pointless issues and misuse the law given by God. Rather than advancing God’s work the church is embroiled in controversial speculations and meaningless talk.
What was a problem in Ephesus 2,000 years ago can still be a major problem for churches today. Thus the importance and relevance of Paul’s two letter to Timothy. 1st and 2nd Timothy are filled with warnings against false teachers and ways to discern between teaching that is false and teaching that is sincere and true.
Praying everyone has a blessed week,
In Christ,
Gary T.
