Malachi 2:10 begins the second of Malachi’s three prophetic messages. The first was directed against the priests of Judah, and ended with a stinging rebuke (1:1-2:9). The people of Judah were stumbling due, in part, to failed spiritual leadership. This Sunday’s lesson, which comes from Malachi 2:10–16, will show just how far Judah had fallen. Just as the priests were being unfaithful to God, the people were being unfaithful to each other. This passage is perhaps the Bible’s strongest indicator of God’s views on divorce. We will look at this passage from that perspective but also from the larger context of God’s covenant relationship with His people.
