This psalm celebrates Yahweh’s incomparable power (manifested at creation) and His supremacy over any other presumed divine beings.
This psalm divides into two sections: verses 1-7a (call to worship); and verses 7b-11 (warning exhortation). This psalm follows a pattern similar to Psalms 50 and 81 – praise with final admonition. While celebrating Yahweh’s incomparable majesty and willingness to be involved intimately in the lives of His people, the psalmist warns his audience not to make the same tragic mistake their ancestors made, rejecting the one true God for false gods.
Next Sunday’s lesson will focus on Psalm 95 as we continue our 5 part series on worship. Take some time as you find some time to dig into this psalm this week. It’s only 11 verses and you will grow in grace and knowledge as you immerse yourself into deeper study of God’s Word.
