1 Corinthians 13:4 tells us that Love does not envy. Envy is the emotion when you want a possession someone else has. On the other hand, jealousy is the emotion when you fear you may be replaced in the affection of someone else. For example, Saul was jealous of David because the people had more affection for him (1 Samuel 18:8). Ahab was envious of Naboth because he wanted his vineyard (1 Kings 21). James 3:16 tells us that where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. The pressures of this world can draw us into wrong desires such as greed or destructive competitiveness. Seeking God’s wisdom delivers us from the need to compare ourselves to others and want what they have.
This Wednesday evening in Bible class we will be taking a closer look Matthew 5 as we continue our study on the Law of Moses. Hope to see you then. Praying everyone has a blessed week.
