Judges 6:14 The Lord turned to him and said, “Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand. Am I not sending you?”
Judges 6:15 tells us that Gideon was from the weakest clan in Manasseh and that he was the weakest in his family, yet God called on him to do a job. Go in the strength you have, the Lord told Gideon. A lot of times we focus on what we don’t have and what we can’t do and lose sight of all that we do have and can do.
One thing we do have at our congregation is a heart for serving and encouraging others. Last month, 8 of our families went to the Betty Dare facility in Alamogordo and did a brief worship service for some of the residents there who are unable to attend church services, and we had a wonderful turnout. Samuel Gonzales led singing, I shared a brief message from the book of Psalms, and we offered the Lord’s Supper. The residents seemed genuinely excited that we took the time to do this. It didn’t take much on our part, but it was a huge deal for those residents who aren’t able to get out and go to services somewhere. Our plan is to do this on the 3rd Sunday of each month and next Sunday, November 17, is our next opportunity.
The service starts at 4:00 PM and we sing a few songs, have a brief encouraging message from Scripture, and offer the Lord’s Supper, and close with a prayer. It is a great opportunity to bring a little joy into the lives of others who are not as fortunate as us. For the men in our congregation who are willing, we would like to have different folks give the devotional talk each time and if you want to lead some songs, help with the Lord’s Supper, or offer a prayer that would be great. Just let me know what you are willing to do and we will get it organized. If you are free next Sunday between 4:00-4:30 PM, please join us at Betty Dare located at 3101 N Florida Ave in Alamogordo. I promise you it will be as encouraging for you as it is for the residents there.
Praying everyone has a great week!
In Christ,
Gary T.
