Though 3 John is the smallest book in the Bible we should not underestimate the importance of what is communicated, especially about leadership. In fourteen short verses John, led by the Spirit and inspired by God, paints three portraits of leadership, two good and one bad, each accentuating the witness of that character. This letter gives us an important glimpse into the life of the early church.
The leaders of an individual congregation sometimes face problems and temptations. Love can give way to power, and power can corrupt. This brief letter, however, points us to an alternative use of power and influence as a tool for service. By calling Christians to walk in the truth and practice hospitality and graciousness, 3 John gives a message still worth hearing.
Our Wednesday evening lesson will focus on 3 John. The video will be uploaded to our face-book page at 7:30 (don’t know if it will be live or not) and the audio will be available Wednesday evening here on the website under Wednesday Bible Study.
Praying everyone is staying safe and healthy and I hope you get a chance to check out this Wednesday’s lesson.
In Christ,
Gary T.
