Civil Disobedience and the Christian

Posted on May 17, 2020 by admin

In 1 Peter 2:13-17 Peter, inspired by God, told his original audience to submit themselves for the Lord’s sake to every human authority. Did Peter mean that they should submit to those authorities in any and every situation regardless of the order? What were the principles behind Peter’s God-inspired words in this passage? Oppressed people often rebel against their oppressors. However, Peter, inspired by God, told his audience to submit …to the emperor or to governors. Peter, of course knew that Governments did not always carry out God’s will, yet he told his audience to submit themselves for the Lord’s sake to every human authority.

This Sunday we will look at what the Bible has to say about civil disobedience. We will look deeper at this passage from 1 Peter 2 as well as some examples of civil disobedience found in Scripture. We will live-stream the sermon on our face book page beginning at 12:30 and we will post the audio of the lesson to our website Sunday afternoon.

Praying everyone is staying safe and healthy.

In Christ,

Gary T.
