Joshua 1:9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.
Three times in the first 9 verses of Joshua chapter one God urged Joshua to be strong and courageous. Joshua must have been a little anxious as he was about to lead Israel into war to take the Promised Land but God promised Joshua the resources he would need: God’s own presence and God’s Word.
We have the same things available to us today through Jesus Christ. This Sunday as we continue our series on “considering Jesus” we will look at 5 things we need from Christ that will help us to be strong and courageous as we head into 2021. As we begin another year we need the perseverance of Christ in the face of affliction. As we begin a new year we need the expectant faith of Christ in the face of depleting pressures. As we start 2021 we need the wisdom of Christ as we face the complexities of life. As we begin a new year we need the stability of Christ in the midst of rapid social and political and personal changes all around us. And as we enter into a brand new year we need the assurance of his sovereign authority in a culture sliding farther and farther from His truth.
Praying that the new year will bring blessings and joy,
In Christ,
Gary T.
