2 Kings 6:16-17 “Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” 17 And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
The king of Aram was at war with Israel but could not find success because the prophet Elisha would tell the king of Israel everything that was about to happen. This enraged the king of Aram so he sent horses and chariots and a strong force to Dothan to capture Elisha. When Elisha’s servant got up the next morning he saw an army with horses and chariots surrounding the city, and he was afraid.
2 Kings 6:15 says the servant cried out “lord, what shall we do?” That is when Elisha stepped in and said “Don’t be afraid,” “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” Elisha knew that there was greater strength in the unseen reality of the hosts of heaven than in the visible reality of the Aramean forces. And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. In response to Elisha’s prayer, God allowed the servant to see the protecting might of the heavenly hosts gathered about Elisha.
A friend of mine shared this verse with me a couple of days ago and suggested that it was very applicable to the fear and doubt many are facing today. And I agree. What we can see on the television or hear on the radio is mostly doom and gloom but Hebrews 11:1 says faith is confidence and assurance in what we do not see. God is in control and God is with His people just like he was with Elisha.
Praying everyone is staying safe and healthy,
In Christ,
