2 Chronicles 32:7-8 “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged because of the king of Assyria and the vast army with him, for there is a greater power with us than with him. 8 With him is only the arm of flesh, but with us is the Lord our God to help us and to fight our battles.” And the people gained confidence from what Hezekiah the king of Judah said.
Hezekiah could see with eyes of faith. The numbers of his opponents meant nothing as long as he was on the Lord’s side. Victory is “Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty” (Zechariah 4:6). Hezekiah could confidently encourage his people because he had no doubt about where he stood with God.
Hezekiah’s God inspired words to his people are also God’s words to us today. God speaks to us through His word and the words of this passage should help us to gain confidence just as they did for Hezekiah’s people thousands of years ago. As Christians we are to be strong and courageous not afraid or discouraged. Why? Because there is a greater power with us than there is in the world and the Lord our God will help us to fight our battles, whatever they may be.
Whose side are you on? You may never face an enemy army like Hezekiah, but the battles you face everyday can be won with God’s strength.
This Sunday’s lesson will focus on Hezekiah’s showdown with the Assyrians, we will live-stream beginning at12:30 on the church face-book page and post an audio version to the website sometime Sunday afternoon.
Praying everyone is staying safe and healthy,
In Christ,
