1 John 5:4-5 for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.
There is something within the Christian which makes him or her able to overcome the world. The term “world” comes from the Greek word kosmos and refers to the world apart from God and in opposition to Him. That which enables us to “overcome the world” is faith.
James 1:3 tells us that the testing of our faith produces perseverance. Webster’s defines perseverance as a continued effort to do or achieve something despite difficulties, failure, or opposition. James 2:17 says that faith, if not accompanied by action is dead. We all experience times in our lives when our faith is tested and that is when we need to persevere, that is when we need to continue to do what we know is right and good despite difficulties, failure, or opposition.
Hebrews 11 begins by defining faith as confidence and assurance and then goes on to give example after example of those who were commended because of their faith, those who persevered, and those who continued to do what God wanted them to do despite difficulties, failures, and opposition. How strong is your faith?
This Sunday’s sermon will be live-streamed over our face book page (@cloudcroftchurchofchrist) beginning at 11:25 AM. We will take a look at this faith that helps us to overcome the world.
Praying everyone has a great week and stays safe and healthy 🙂
