This Saturday many in the religious world will celebrate Christmas. We do not read of Christmas in God’s word. It is a man-made holiday when many people celebrate the birth of Christ. The Bible doesn’t really have a lot to say about the birth of Christ. Matthew and Luke devote parts of two chapters to Christ’s birth (Matthew 1-2; Luke 1-2); John devotes just one verse (John 1:14) and Mark doesn’t mention Jesus’ birth at all. In fact Scripture give us very little information on Jesus’ first 30 years.
What little information we have on Jesus’ early years are found in the Gospel of Luke. Verses 39-52 give us the only account of Jesus’ life following his birth until he is revealed publicly to Israel at around the age of 30. This passage contains the story of a 12 year old Jesus in the temple. There are some lessons we can learn from this account of Jesus’ early years and that will be the focus of this Sunday’s lesson.
Praying everyone has a blessed week,
In Christ,
Gary T.
