1 Corinthians 6:20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. What did Paul mean when he said “you were bought at a price”? It means that for the Christian our bodies no longer belong to us but to the Lord because He purchased us with His blood. Revelation 5:9 And they sang a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation. Because our bodies belong to God we must not violate His standards for living. 1 Corinthians 6:19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own…
We live in a world of tolerance and cheap grace but because we now belong to God we must pursue holiness. 1 Corinthians 6:11 reminds us that we have been sanctified, set apart as holy, and therefore we should be holy in all we do (1 Peter 1:15). We can’t be set apart from the world when we tolerate unrepentant sin within the community of believers and when we knowingly associate with those who claim to be Christians yet live in sin as if it were acceptable to God (1 Corinthians 5). We are not set apart from the world when we take our disputes before the world to be judged by the ungodly (1 Corinthians 6:1-8). We are not set apart from the world when we continue to live in sin as if it were acceptable behavior (1 Corinthians 6:9-11). And we are not set apart from the world when we use our freedom in Christ to do whatever we want to do instead of what God wants us to do (1 Corinthians 6:12-20). Christ sets us free so that we can live for Him, not for the world.
This Sunday we will wrap up our 5 lesson series on Keeping the Body Holy as we focus on 1 Corinthians 6:12-20. Praying everyone has a blessed week.
