1 John 5:1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well.
Here, John has in mind a natural law of human life. Family love is a part of nature. The child naturally loves his parents; and he just as naturally loves his brothers and sisters. The second part of 1 John 5:1 reads: “everyone who loves the father loves his child as well”. Put simply that is: “If we love our father, we also love our siblings.” John is thinking of the love which naturally binds a child to their father and to the other children who belong to that father.
Lord willing we will continue our Wednesday night Bible study of 1 John this week by starting on 1 John chapter 5.
