1 Corinthians 11 begins a new section (11-14) where Paul, inspired by God, addresses issues concerning the assembly, when the Corinthians “come together” (11:18; 11:20; 14:23; 14:26). The problems include disputes about proper attire in worship (11:2-16), abuses of the Lord’s Supper (11:17-34), and abuses of spiritual gifts (12-14). The role of women is also addressed in chapters 11 and 14. It is not a coincidence that the famous love chapter is sandwiched right in the middle of all this contentiousness (chapter 13).
Next Sunday in our Adult Bible Study we will dive into this section and carefully examine the Scriptures to see what they mean to Christians today.
