This Sunday we will begin a short sermon series from the Old Testament book of Haggai. There are two major themes in this book: right priorities and God’s encouragement. This week we will focus on the right priorities.
God had given the Judeans who had returned from Babylon the task of rebuilding the temple. After several years they still had not completed it. They had lost their focus and motivation and instead were focusing on their own interests instead of the Lord’s. Haggai told them to get back to work.It is easy to make other priorities more important than doing the Lord’s work. But God wants His people to follow through and build up His kingdom. God doesn’t accept excuses, He didn’t in Haggai’s day, and He doesn’t today. The first part of Haggai should encourage us to give careful thought to our ways and make sure our priorities are in the right order.
