Matthew 7:15-23 contains a two-sided warning about false believers. There are those who appear respectable and wise, but you must look at their fruit to know if they are the real deal. In the same way, it’s possible for a person to claim to follow Jesus, referring to Him as “Lord,” when they are not true believers. Only those who do the will of the Father will be allowed into the kingdom of heaven. Last week we looked at the first part of this passage where Jesus tells us to pay attention to the fruit (Matthew 7:15-20), this week we will look at the second part where Jesus gives a stern warning to those who would claim to follow Him but insist on doing it their own way (Matthew 7:21-23).
