Ezekiel 47:1 (NIV) The man brought me back to the entrance to the temple, and I saw water coming out from under the threshold of the temple toward the east (for the temple faced east). This Sunday in our final lesson from our Ezekiel series we will look at Ezekiel 47-48 and the river of living water that flows from the glorious new temple.
The prophecies of Ezekiel find their fulfillment in Jesus. He is the new temple. John 2:19 (NIV) Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.” Ephesians 2:21-22 (NIV) In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. 22 And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.
Jesus is the living water. John 4:10-14 (NIV) …whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
John 7:37-39 (NIV) On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” 39 By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.
In this week’s lesson we will dive into Ezekiel 47-48 and see what we can learn about this Mighty River of Living Water.
